Ratios
A relationship between two quantities, often expressed as a fraction.
Soh Cah Toa
A mnemonic for remembering the definitions of sine, cosine, and tangent in relation to a right triangle.
Sine (sin)
In a right triangle, the ratio of the length of the opposite side to the length of the hypotenuse.
Cosine (cos)
In a right triangle, the ratio of the length of the adjacent side to the length of the hypotenuse.
Tangent (tan)
In a right triangle, the ratio of the length of the opposite side to the length of the adjacent side.
Complementary Angles
Two angles that add up to 90 degrees.
Angle of Depression
The angle formed by a horizontal line and a line of sight down to an object.
45°-45°-90° Triangle
A special right triangle where the angles are 45°, 45°, and 90°, and the legs are of equal length.
Trigonometric Ratios
Ratios that relate the angles and sides of a triangle, specifically sine, cosine, and tangent.
Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse
The tallest lighthouse in Florida, used as an example for calculating height using trigonometric ratios.
Opposite Side
The side opposite a given angle in a triangle.
