BIO 3.4
Types of Energy
Solar Energy - radiation from the sun
Chemical Energy - biomolecules stored in food
Usable Energy - ATP
ATP provides energy for all metabolic reactions
The bond between the third phosphate group and the rest of the molecule stores the energy
ATP - secure bond (fully-charged battery)
ADP - broken bond (half-charged battery)
Chemical Equation for Photosynthesis
$6 CO_2 + 6 H_2O\ +$ Sunlight → $C_6H_{12}O_6 + 6O_2$
Chlorophyll - light-absorbing pigment
Eukaryotes - photosynthesis in chloroplasts (contain chlorophyll)
Prokaryotes - photosynthesis in chlorophyll in the cell membrane
Stomata - pores that allow gas entry/exit (like oxygen and carbon dioxide)
Roots - allow water transfer from soil
